Six Nations table: Latest standings, results, fixtures and odds for 2023 tournament
Ireland are poised to win just their fourth Grand Slam after the penultimate round of matches at this year’s Six Nations.
Scotland looked set to push the world’s best team all the way at Murrayfield after a thrilling and tight first half, but the Irish quality shown through after the break to run out 22-7 winners, though they failed to claim a bonus point.
On Saturday, Italy were targeting a first home win in this competition for 10 years against a team that had lost three in a row for their worst start since 2007 in what was likely a battle to avoid the dreaded wooden spoon. However, Wales prevailed 29-17 with a much-needed bonus-point triumph at the Stadio Olimpico.
Then it was onto Twickenham, where England suffered their worst-ever home defeat as rampant France ran in seven tries during a 53-10 shellacking. It was England’s third-largest loss of all-time on a sobering evening for Steve Borthwick.
The penultimate weekend of action then concludes in Glasgow on Sunday, with Scotland hoping to halt Ireland’s relentless Grand Slam charge at Murrayfield.
