Ski Jumping - Schlierenzauer made to wait for record-breaking victory as Kranjec reins in Vikersund

Gregor Schlierenzauer was made to wait for his record-breaking moment as Robert Kranjec recorded his first World Cup victory of the season in Vikersund, Norway.

Just 24 hours earlier Austrian Schlierenzauer had equalled Matti Nykanen’s all-time tally of 46 World Cup wins as he was triumphant in the first ski flying event of the season.

But he was unable to repeat the trick the next day as Slovenian Kranjec rose to the occasion and instead he will now have to wait until next weekend to see if he can take sole possession of the record for most World Cup victories with number 47.

Not that Kranjec minded though as he racked up 416.5 points for his first victory of the season.

There was also plenty for German Michael Neumayer to celebrate as he finished a life-time best second, with Schlierenzauer having to settle for third.

However Schlierenzauer still sits pretty atop the ovetrall World Cup standings, moving onto 1000 points, his nearest challenge coming from Norway's Andreas Bardal who moved onto 757 after finishing 17th in front of his home fans.
