After consulting with his family doctor, the Austrian decided to take a break from competition after suffering from flu in Wisla.

Schlierenzauer's absence means the Austrian team will only take three men Japan - Andreas Kofler, Wolfgang Loitzl and Michael Hayboeck.

Schlierenzauer is aiming to return for the ski flying event in Vikersund on the weekend of January 26 and 27.

The 23-year-old, who became only the seventh man to successfully defend the Four Hills title, could set the record for World Cup victories and even surpass that in Norway.
