Sassuolo forward Gianluca Scamacca remains of interest to West Ham, but the player’s asking price is reportedly blocking any move.

Italy international Scamacca and his team-mate Giacomo Raspadori have been linked with the Hammers this month. 90min report both are on the radar of David Moyes as he looks to add some depth to his squad.

Moyes is hoping to land Jesse Lingard and they are waiting on a response after lodging a contract offer with the player, who will leave Manchester United this summer.

The Irons though do have other players in their sights and Scamacca, who netted 16 goals in 38 appearances is one of them.

Sport Mediaset, via Sport Witness report that West Ham “above all” are very keen on the 23-year-old.

But the Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali has placed a €45m asking price on the player. That is seen as a “too high of a price for a young prospect”.

Scamacca has been capped seven times by Italy. But with only two Serie A seasons under his belt he remains inexperienced.

Carnevali would like to keep the player and develop him further, but he will sanction a sale at the price tag. The “doors could be opened” if West Ham come up with the money.

Scamacca waiting game

West Ham though seem unwilling to put up that sort of money for a rookie striker. And that’s most probably why their interest has not yet prompted an approach.

Paris Saint-Germain are also suitors of the 6ft 4inch forward and the report claims the player was “offered” to Luis Campos last week.

It leaves the ball firmly in the court of Moyes and head of recruitment Rob Newman. They know they must get to a ballpark figure of €45m to get anywhere near a deal for Scamacca.

West Ham are short of attacking options with Michail Antonio relied on solely last season. The 32-year-old made 34 Premier League starts last season, scoring 10 goals. And Moyes knows he has to spread out the player’s load next term.

As the transfer window goes on West Ham may become more and more desperate to get in a striker. And a move later in the window might be forthcoming, unless Newman can dig out a cheaper and more reliable option.
