Sky Sports to show more Women’s Super League as 2022 fixtures released

Women’s Super League champions St Helens will start their title defence with a home derby against Wigan on the weekend of May 15.

Also in the opening round, Leeds face rivals Castleford. The 2021 Challenge Cup runners-up York travel to newly-promoted side Huddersfield.

The WSL has expanded to 12 teams. The competition will be split into two groups if six, with a one-up one-down system for 2023.

In group two, Barrow and Leigh Miners Rangers start with home games against Warrington and Wakefield respectively. Bradford will face Featherstone in a repeat of the first-ever Women’s Super League Grand Final in 2017.

Sky Sports have announced they will show two regular season matches. They will be played on Thursday evenings as double-headers. They will also show the semi-finals and Grand Final.

Sky will show the repeat of the 2021 Grand Final between St Helens and Leeds at the Totally Wicked Stadium on Thursday, June 23. They will also show the Rhinos’ home game against Wigan at Headingley on Thursday, July 21. Both games will kick-off at 5:30pm.

The Women’s Super League South will welcome Oxford Cavaliers into the competition this year.

The Women’s campaign will kick off in mid-March. The entire Challenge Cup will be played before the Super League season gets underway.

2022 Women’s Super League fixtures:

Opening fixtures (weekend of May 14-15):

Group 1: Castleford v Leeds, Huddersfield v York, St Helens v Wigan.

Group 2: Barrow v Warrington, Bradford v Featherstone, Leigh Miners Rangers v Wakefield.

Sky Sports live fixtures:

Thursday, June 23: St Helens v Leeds Rhinos (5:30pm)

Thursday, July 21: Leeds Rhinos v Wigan Warriors (5:30pm)
