Barry Smith heaped praise on his players following the win over Hibs

Dundee manager Barry Smith praised his players after their 3-1 destruction of Hibernian at Dens Park.

Kyle Benedictus opened the scoring after 21 minutes and second-half goals from Steven Milne and Kevin McBride meant Leigh Griffiths' injury-time strike was nothing more than a consolation.

Smith said: "It's a great result and a very good performance. We deserved to win the game and we got three goals as well which is always nice."

He added: "We played with high energy levels and pressed them high up the pitch which we got a lot of joy from. We're pleased with the overall performance and the lads have all been working ever so hard.

"There's a long way to go but we'll concentrate on what we're doing. It's as simple as that. We're not looking at anyone else and that won't change."

Hibs manager Pat Fenlon admitted his side had only themselves to blame for their unexpected loss on Tayside.

Fenlon said: "We got what we deserved. We didn't perform to the levels we have been doing of late. We haven't had a performance like that all season so it's difficult to explain. Dundee worked harder than us but we have to take it on the chin and it's hard to be overly critical of the players.

"We spoke about it at half-time because we were lucky to go in just 1-0 down as it could have been more. But we didn't start as well as we wanted to and all of a sudden we were 2-0 down and it was all uphill from there on.

"We kept at it but didn't do enough to take anything from the game. We've got to make sure that we concentrate on our own form. We didn't do that today which was disappointing.

"You don't want to take too much away from Dundee because they've been battling hard all season as a team and deserved this win. They passed the ball well at times and scored some good goals."
