SMWC men selected to travel to Iowa for NAIA tourney

Mar. 7—The Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College Pomeroys will travel to Northwestern (Iowa) on March 15 for the opening round of the NAIA national men's basketball tournament.

SMWC captured the No. 12 seed in the Naismith Quadrant of the 64-team bracket, while the Red Raiders of No. 12-ranked Northwestern are the No. 5 seed. The game will be played at Bultman Center in Orange City, Iowa, and tipoff is set for 6:30 p.m. EST.

The winner of that Friday's game will stay in Orange City, Iowa to take on the winner between No. 4 Oregon Tech and No. 13 Keiser (Fla.). That game will take place Saturday, March 16, at 7 p.m. EST, with the winner earning a berth in the Sweet 16.

SMWC compiled a 25-6 record for the season, while Northwestern posted a mark of 23-7, including a 15-5 record in the Great Plains Athletic Conference. The Red Raiders advanced to the semifinals of the GPAC tournament before falling to Morningside 93-83 at home.

Senior Cobie Barnes is The Woods' leading scorer, averaging 22.9 points per game.
