Trump constructed knocks of 109, 127, 112 and 73 in speeding away from the man from Happy Valley in Hong Kong after the first four frames of the session were split.

The only surprise was seeing the 2011 finalist share the first four frames, with Fu doing well to remain in touch with the Bristol potter.

The world number three has now compiled 59 centuries this season - a record that has already passed Mark Selby's 55 from last year.

Trump and Fu play their second session from 10am on Saturday morning with the first man to 13 frames reaching the last eight.

Trump is on course to meet Shaun Murphy, who edged out Graeme Dott in a late-night thriller, with a semi-final against Ronnie O'Sullivan remaining firmly on the horizon if both men can continue their progress through the tournament.
