Hang took the first three frames with breaks of 62, 54 and 62 but the World Championship semi-finalist dug in and responded to claim the next two - with a break of 60 in the fifth - to reduce the deficit.

Hang ground out the following frame to re-take a two frame advantage before a 67 break in the next was enough to ensure that Trump was eliminated.

Six-time world champion Steve Davis capitulated to a 5-1 defeat at the hands of Andrew Higginson.

Davis whitewashed Higginson last time the pair met in a Shanghai Masters qualifier in 2012 but the 'Widnes Warrior' was left untroubled as he recorded a rather comfortable win with Davis' highest break - a 45 - coming in the final frame.

The 2002 world champion Peter Ebdon was another casualty in the first round going down 5-3 to Xiao Guodong but this year's Crucible finalist Barry Hawkins downed Fergal O'Brien 5-3 to reach the last 32.

O'Brien made a 117 break to lead 2-1 before runs of 51 and 89 helped the Kent player to a 4-2 lead. The Irishman then conjured up another century, 104, before Hawkins sealed his progress.

John Higgins lost the first frame of his clash with Australian qualifier Vinnie Calabrese but bounced back to win 5-1 against the Australian qualifier.

The four-time former world champion had a high break of 116 in the fourth and he will next face Dechaway Poomjaeng.

Neil Robertson beat Zhu Yinghui 5-2 to progress.

Yinghui, who ousted Reanne Evans in a wildcard qualifier on Monday, raced into a two frame lead against the Australian.

Yinghui took the first scrappy frame with neither player able to get into any sort of rhythm and a break of 67 in the next was enough to secure a two frame advantage for the Chinese amateur.

However, the 2010 Crucible champion rattled off the next five frames – including breaks of 58, 69, and 83 - without reply to move into the next round.
