SOCCER: Claremore delivers dominant display in sweep of Wagoner

Mar. 29—Claremore soccer returned from a 14-day hiatus due to spring break with a resounding display of dominance Tuesday night at Wagoner.

Despite the hiatus, both teams exhibited superior skill, with the girls securing a resounding 9-0 victory followed by the boys clinching a commanding 3-1 win. Both teams are set to resume action on Tuesday, April 2, with their District 5A-3 openers at Collinsville.

In the girls game, Ava Rooney stole the spotlight with a hat trick while Elise Tillis added two goals, contributing to the Lady Zebras' highest-goal tally of the season as they improved to 6-1 overall.

Rooney initiated the scoring frenzy within the first three minutes of the game, capitalizing on an assist from Abby Tietz. Despite a brief lull, Tillis reignited the offensive charge with two goals in quick succession at the 11:32 and 10:12 marks, courtesy of assists from Tietz and Rooney.

Breckin Williams further bolstered Claremore's lead before halftime off an assist from Emily Klucevsek with 2:41 remaining, contributing to a comfortable 4-0 advantage.

The Lady Zebras maintained their relentless assault in the second half, with Rooney netting her second goal early on, followed by strikes from Kennedy Freeman (31:31) and Annie Payne (14:23). Emma Easton and Rooney sealed the emphatic victory with two late goals at the 8:42 and 7:20 marks, respectively, with Freeman providing the assist for Rooney's hat-trick goal.

Claremore showcased remarkable accuracy, with 20 of its 22 shots hitting the target. The Lady Bulldogs, on the other hand, managed only eight shots in total.

On the boys front, the Zebras extended their undefeated streak to 7-0 with a convincing performance.

Lisandro Sosa, Furious Poole and Walker Dunaway led the scoring charge, while Jesus Estrada-Ramirez and Sosa provided crucial assists to ensure Claremore's dominance remained unchallenged on the night.
