PORTO ALEGRE, Brazil (Reuters) - Veteran striker Diego Souza scored another winner for Gremio on Wednesday as the Porto Alegre side overcame a stuffy Bahia team 2-1 at home.
The 35-year-old Souza, who got the decisive goal in a 1-0 win over league leaders Sao Paulo two weeks ago, did the job again when his free kick was deflected past an unfortunate goalkeeper after 54 minutes.
Vanderson had put Gremio ahead a quarter of an hour into the game only for Anderson to equalize for the visitors two minutes into the second half.
Gremio, who started the day in fifth, leapfrogged their city rivals Internacional to move into fourth place in the Serie A, although Inter play Ceara on Thursday.
Bahia, who started the day one point above the relegation zone, remain in serious trouble with just 10 games of the season remaining.
