SOCIAL CHATTER: Brendan Rodgers’ sacking - Carragher consoled, Owen ‘inevitable’ and Collymore votes Klopp

We take a close look at social media to get the best reaction to Brendan Rodgers’ sacking as Liverpool manager and find out who might replace him in the Anfield hot seat.

Brendan Rodgers’ reign as Liverpool manager came to an end on Sunday with the shock announcement of his departure just hours after a 1-1 Merseyside derby draw with Everton.

His dismissal brought to an end months of speculation about his future at Anfield and sparked much debate over who will be the next manager of Liverpool.

But not before the news had shocked many.

This image of Thierry Henry, sat in the Sky Sports studio live on air alongside former Red Jamie Carragher, was shared several thousand times.

But it was not only Carragher who needed consoling. Many other former Anfield stars expressed their surprise, shock and dismay - while others got excited about Rodgers’ potential replacement…

For those who don’t know, there is a parody account running for Rodgers called “Deluded Brendan” - and quick off the mark as usual, it quoted some of the deposed boss’ most famous lines.

To underline the swiftness of Rodgers’ departure, the timings made interesting reading too. Within two-and-a-half hours, he had gone from secure to sacked.

Talk of his replacement was dominated by two names - Carlo Ancelotti and Jurgen Klopp - with the Liverpool Echo throwing Diego Simeone into the mix too.

The general consensus on social media is that the job is former Borussia Dortmund manager Klopp’s if he wants it.

Rodgers’ sacking was good news for one Liverpool fan, who ended his self-imposed five-month Twitter ban minutes after the news broke.

The supporter had made a vow back in May not to tweet until Rodgers was sacked and, having kept his word, he returned with the wording “Finally…”.

The parody account Deluded Brendan was immediately on the hunt for work - tweeting both a job site and Sunderland, who parted company with manager Dick Advocaat just hours earlier.

Meanwhile, the news of Rodgers’ demise also played into the hands of Chelsea’s Jose Mourinho, it seems, following a weekend of speculation about his own future.
