Social Chatter: Chelsea’s Gary Cahill and David Luiz are comedy stars

James Matthews rounds up the best from social media and finds Chelsea defenders Gary Cahill and David Luiz the centre of many jokes.

Chelsea manager Antonio Conte has tough work ahead of him if he is to prevent Gary Cahill and David Luiz becoming renowned comedy stars.

That was just one of the many put downs after a horror show from the Blues saw them slip to an embarrassing 3-0 defeat to London rivals Arsenal in the Premier League.

A slip up from Cahill started the ball rolling, but in truth it was another shaky defensive performance from the Blues throughout.

And it was the England defender and his centre-half partner Luiz who came in for most criticism, the pair lining up together in the absence of captain John Terry and the injured Kurt Zouma.

It was a resounding 791-303 victory for the cones at the time the tweet was captured!

There was a damning stat on Cahill too…

One Twitter user pointed out the sterling effort Roberto Di Matteo must have managed in winning the Champions League with Cahill and Luiz in his Chelsea side.

Pundits Jamie Carragher and Stan Collymore were both critical of the Chelsea defending, the horror show coming on the back of more mistakes in midweek against Leicester City.

And it was underlined just how big a task lies ahead for new boss Conte, who could well decide it is time to switch the back three which served him so well as Italy boss.

But it wasn’t just the defence who came in for criticism after the defeat to Arsenal.

Cesc Fabregas, the former Gunner, was anonymous in the Chelsea midfield.

Some Arsenal supporters wondered why he had been booed off - insisting he had been excellent for Arsene Wenger’s men on the day.

Arsenal’s stars revelled in the victory with Theo Walcott one of those taking to social media after the game.

The Gunners winger was impressive in the win and tweeted his delight at the performance and the three points.

But former Chelsea legend Didier Drogba immediately put the England star in his place with his reply - and saved a little bit of face for the embarrassed Blues.
