Social Chatter: Poll says Costa should be banned and Suzann Petterson gets it in the neck from everyone...even Piers Morgan
We delve the depths of the twittersphere to discover what stars and fans thought of bad boy Diego Costa’s antics in the Premier League on Saturday and bad girl Suzann Petterson’s unsportsmanlike behaviour at golf’s Solheim Cup on Sunday
COSTA CLASH
Controversial Chelsea striker Diego Costa played a significant role in getting Arsenal defender Gabriel Paulista sent off in a heated Premier League clash. It is not the first time for Costa - but should he have been sent-off?
Former referee Graham Poll said yes - and banned:
But the club saw the incident through blue-tinted glasses:
Gary Lineker couldn’t resist a quick quip as usual…
While Harry Redknapp backed Costa and warned against a retrospective ban:
But team-mate Kurt Zouma enlivened the debate actually calling him a “cheat”:
And it was left to a simple cartoon to depict exactly what happened:
BAD GIRL PETTERSON A DISGRACE TO GOLF
Over in Germany at the Solheim Cup Suzann Petterson brought golf’s normally gentile sporting etiquette into disrepute as Gimmegate erupted.
America’s Alisson Lee picked up her ball on the 17th green believing Petterson and her European team-mate Charley Hull had conceded a VERY short putt to halve the hole and head down the last hole all square - but the ultra-competitive Petterson claimed otherwise, refusing to give them the putt.
It resulted in Europe winning the hole and the match - and it sparked the fiercest golf tweets even seen:
Even Piers Morgan felt the need to get involved (mind you, when doesn’t he!):
The United States had the last laugh as the fired-up Americans came out to dominate the singles (they trailed 10-6) and win the Solheim Cup by half-a-point. In truth, the right team won given Petterson’s behaviour on that 17th green.
Petterson issued a lengthy statement on her instagram account on Monday apologising for her actions, but it was all done and dusted.
She’s got some making up to do and knows it too.
FAIL OF THE WEEK: MITROVIC IS TROLLED BY HIS OWN TEAM
Newcastle United obviously weren’t put off by the fall out at Manchester City over Yaya Toure’s birthday cake.
They decided to troll new striker Aleksandar Mitrovic on his 21st last week with the wording “he’s had a lot of cards” in a birthday tweet. There’s been no news about training ground injuries to his team-mates so the tough-tackling forward clearly took it well.
