James Matthews looks at the reaction on social media to whether or not Tottenham are serious Premier League title contenders.

Leicester City moved to the top of the Premier League table this weekend, but it was not their title chances that were the focus of social media - it was Tottenham’s.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side took a 4-1 victory over London rivals West Ham on Sunday, and after weekend defeats for Manchester City and Arsenal and Chelsea remaining in the bottom half of the table despite victory over Norwich City, the question now is could Tottenham be genuine title contenders?

Spurs sit in fifth place, four points behind Leicester, prompting talk of a serious challenge for a first championship since 1960/61.

Boss Pochettino was refusing to rule out the possibility after the impressive victory over the Hammers.

And goalscoring hero Harry Kane was equally buoyant about the remainder of the season.

Sparring partners Lord Sugar, the former Tottenham chairman, and Arsenal fan Piers Morgan, who will make be making his debut as a Good Morning Britain presenter, also discussed the chances of their clubs.

But Lord Sugar did accept it is a “big ask” for Tottenham to go all the way.

And former Tottenham midfielder and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp also told Spurs fans to forget about seeing their side lift the Premier League trophy.

While Tottenham are eyeing up Premier League success, up the M1 Northampton Town are facing up to going out of business.

And on Sunday, the club’s official twitter account broke ranks and directed a personal plea to chairman David Cardoza to agree to sell to investors - with just days left before a possible winding up order.
