Softball: Rusk run rules Palestine; Collins goes 3-4

Mar. 22—PALESTINE — Rusk hitters made things miserable for a trio of Palestine pitchers Friday night when the visiting Lady Eagles soared past the Ladycats, 19-9, in five innings (run rule).

Rusk batters clubbed 14 hits, five of the extra base variety, and took advantage of 11 free passes issued by Palestine (11-10, 1-2) pitchers.

The game was tied, 2-2, after three innings, but Rusk (16-8-2, 2-1) exploded for 11 runs in the top of the fourth frame to cement the win.

Riley Collins led Rusk at the dish by going 3-4. She ripped a pair of doubles and drove in four runs.

Aubrey Hassel belted a couple of doubles and collected five RBI, while Kennzie Norton went 2-3 with a RBI.

Other Lady Eagles to have an impactful night at the plate were Sarah Boudreaux (2-4, double, RBI),Courtney Chandler (two hits, three RBI) and Madison Downs (single, RBI).

Arabelle Heredia was the winning pitcher for the Red and Black. She hurled 4.1 frames and gave up three runs, all earned, on three hits. Heredia fanned six and walked the same number.

At 6:45 p.m. Tuesday Rusk will be in Jacksonville to take on the Lady Mustangs.
