Softball: Rusk wins a slug fest over Madisonville; Hassel drives in 7 runs

Mar. 16—RUSK — Aubrey Hassel had a two-home run game and drove in seven runs to help send Rusk to a 17-8 triumph over visiting Madisonville Friday night at Lady Eagle Park.

The contest was the District 18-4A opener for both clubs.

The Lady Eagles (15-7-2, 1-0) plated 12 runs in the last three frames to stop the Lady Mustangs.

Hassel accounted for four of Rusk's 13 hits. She belted a two-run home run over the wall in center field and added an inside-the-park home run as well.

Riley Collins had two hits, which included a solo homer.

Other Lady Eagle offensive standouts were Courtney Chandler (2 hits, 2 RBI), Arabelle Heredia (2 hits including a double, 2 RBI), Madison Downs (double, RBI) and Sarah Boudreaux (double, RBI).

Heredia, the second of three Lady Eagle pitchers that head coach Michael Williams called on, earned the win by tossing and inning and a third and allowing one earned run on one hit. She also walked three Lady Mustangs and didn't record a strike out.

Next up for the Lady Eagles is a 6 p.m. home date Tuesday against Jacksonville, who is also 1-0 in conference play.
