Authorities arrested the son of former NFL lineman Barry Bennett on Saturday after he allegedly shot and killed his parents in their Minnesota home, according to the Associated Press.

22-year-old Dylan Bennett was arrested at a hotel in Cancun, Mexico, by Mexican authorities, per the report, just hours after he had contacted the Todd County Sheriff’s office and agreed to turn himself in to the FBI. Mexican authorities, however, arrested him before he could do so.

Barry and his wife, Carol, were found dead in their home in Long Prairie, Minnesota — a small town about two hours northwest of Minneapolis — on Wednesday. Authorities said they were both shot multiple times and found Dylan’s car at the scene with an empty box for a 9 mm handgun and ammunition inside. Authorities charged Dylan with two counts of second-degree murder without premeditation, and issued a warrant for his arrest.

Authorities, per the Associated Press, believe Barry and Carol were murdered on Monday, the last day Dylan was seen in Long Prairie. He reportedly withdrew a “large sum of cash” from their bank account that day, and later reportedly drove Carol’s car to Columbus, Ohio — where he booked a plane ticket to Cancun.

The FBI, per the report, is in the process of taking Dylan into custody and will bring him back to Minnesota in the coming days.

Barry, who was drafted out of Concordia College, played for the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets and Minnesota Vikings during his 11-year NFL career in the 1970s and 1980s. He was also a three-time wrestling champion in college, and coached football and wrestling in Long Prairie before retiring.
