Son Heung-min has revealed his desire to see Harry Kane remain at Tottenham so that the pair can continue their deadly goalscoring relationship.

The attacking pair came into the Spurs team not long after each other under Mauricio Pochettino’s leadership. Kane broke through at the end of the 2013/14 season before Son arrived from Bayer Leverkusen in 2015.

And since then, they have led Tottenham’s attack impressively, scoring 378 goals for the club between them.

What’s more, they have supplied a total of 41 Premier League goals for each other. In tallying their 37th combination in February, they became the most lethal strike pairing in the division, overtaking Didier Drogba and Frank Lampard.

South Korea international Son, who last year signed a new contract until 2025, wants to see Kane – contracted until 2024 – stay so they can take their record to new heights.

“We are really close,” Son told GQ Korea. “We understand each other really well, and we also know how the other is off the pitch.

“Kane and I both know what the other likes. It’s really special.

“We have already made 41 goals together. What Kane and I really have in common is that we both have a lot of greed and have the strong will to always improve.

“Even beyond football skills, our mindsets are similar.”

While Son’s recent contract extension ended speculation over his future, talk over Kane’s plans remain unanswered. He tried and failed to leave Tottenham for Manchester City in last summer’s most memorable transfer sagas.

Son urges Kane, Tottenham stay

Manager Antonio Conte’s arrival and instant impact has secured Kane’s future for now, but he nevertheless only has two years left on his deal.

And Bayern Munich, who have lost Robert Lewandowski, are reportedly sniffing a 2024 transfer raid for the England captain.

Son, though, has insisted that the relationship between him and Kane can further blossom if he stays in north London.

“I want to continue the record that I have set with a team-mate like this, although our record will be broken one day,” he said.

“Even when we’re training, if one of us makes an assist for the other’s goal, we joke around saying, ‘Hey, it’s our 42nd goal now?'”

Striker the next big Spurs priority

Tottenham have shown impressive progress since Conte arrived and Kane‘s contract renewal is a big next step.

Not only did Conte inspire a top-four Premier League finish last season and subsequent Champions League qualification, but he has backed that up with some bold summer signings.

Former Everton striker Richarlison could cost Spurs £60million with add-ons, while Yves Bissouma is a smart investment in midfield.

After revamping his Tottenham team, the next key step for Conte is renewing the contracts of the core group he inherited.

Spurs announced a new deal for defender Ben Davies on Monday, with Kane among the next big priorities.

But Tottenham must continue to show ambition and progress if the England striker is to renew his terms.
