Sources: Celtics' Jayson Tatum commits to play for Team USA in Tokyo

Boston Celtics star forward Jayson Tatum has committed to playing for Team USA at next month’s Tokyo Olympics, sources told Yahoo Sports.

The 23-year-old is coming off a career season, averaging 26.4 points, 7.4 rebounds and 4.3 assists for the Celtics. Tatum’s commitment to playing for USA Basketball comes on the same day as Draymond Green and Damian Lillard reportedly committed, according to The Athletic.

Tatum’s ability to score was on full display during the second half of the regular season and into the playoffs. Despite the Celtics losing in five games to the Brooklyn Nets in the first round of the playoffs, Tatum averaged 30.6 points in the series, including scoring 50 points in a Game 3 win.

In April, Tatum scored 53 points in an overtime victory against Minnesota and 60 points in an overtime victory against San Antonio. And even though it doesn’t count toward regular-season or playoff stats, Tatum scored 50 points in Boston’s 118-100 play-in win against Washington.
