Sources: Tim Hardaway Jr. will re-sign with Mavericks on 4-year, $72 million deal
Dallas Mavericks shooting guard Tim Hardaway Jr. has agreed to a four-year, $72 million deal to remain in Dallas, league sources told Yahoo Sports.
Hardaway Jr. was one of the Mavericks’ bright spots this past season. He averaged 16.6 points and 3.3 rebounds per game over 70 games and 31 starts.
Coming off the bench in the latter half of the season, Hardaway Jr. made a push for Sixth Man of the Year honors. He was fifth in voting behind winner Jordan Clarkson of the Utah Jazz.
The Mavericks earned the fifth seed in the 2020-21 playoffs, falling to the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round in seven games. Hardaway Jr. started all seven games in the series, averaging 17 ppg and 3.3 rpg.
He found his stride in Dallas after being traded from the New York Knicks in January 2019 as part of the deal that sent Kristaps Porzingis to Dallas and DeAndre Jordan, Wesley Matthews and Dennis Smith Jr. to New York.
Over two and a half seasons, Hardaway Jr. shot 43.6% from the field and 38.6% from beyond the 3-point arc.
Another free agency domino expected for the Mavericks is star Luka Doncic's supermax extension. It is expected to get done, but that could come after the Olympics and Doncic’s Slovenia are done in Tokyo.
