SOUTHEND Saxons made it three wins out of three with a 37-19 victory against Thurrock at Warners Bridge.

The triumph saw Southend move up to second in the Regional Two Anglia standings and pleased director of rugby Josh Ward.

“It’s a bonus point win and that’s what we wanted,” said Ward.

“We didn’t play the greatest rugby at times but it’s a mental challenge, especially against them as they’re very, very physical.

“There was a bit of niggle throughout but importantly when opportunities arose we executed them well.

“It’s a bonus point win and we’ll move on.”

Tom Day, Matt Bevan, Tom Ramsey, Jack Buckley and Steven Walker all scored tries for Southend.

Southend: Ramsey, MacVeigh, Smith, Nagy, Day, Lloyd, Inwood, Reeman, Mowle, Holliday, Newton, O’Kill, Walker, Buckley, Whatling.

Replacements: Bevan, Morrison & Justice.
