Spain reappoint Luis Enrique as manager to replace Robert Moreno ahead of Euro 2020

Luis Enrique has returned to take charge of Spain ahead of Euro 2020, replacing Robert Moreno who has been dismissed from his role.

Moreno, who secured Spain’s qualification to the tournament with a record of seven wins and two draws as interim and later permanent manager, had been Luis Enrique’s assistant and was handed the reins when the former Barcelona coach stepped down in June to take care of his daughter Xana, who passed away in September.

Following Spain’s 5-0 win over Romania on Monday, Moreno refused to talk to the media and instead stayed in the dressing room to bid an emotional farewell to the players, according to reports in the Spanish press.

Luis Enrique had been in charge of the national team for a year, winning five and losing two of his seven games in charge.

As one of the many tournament hosts for the cross-continent European Championships next summer, Spain already know that they will be drawn in Group E with Republic of Ireland, should the Irish qualify through the Nations League play-offs in March.
