Spain have been knocked out of Euro 2020 at the semi-final stage after Italy beat them 4-2 on penalties following an absorbing 1-1 draw.

Simon Collings was at Wembley to run the rule over the Spanish players...

Unai Simon 5

Looked shaky on a couple of occasions and didn’t cover himself in much glory. Struggled when playing out from the back.

Cesar Azpilicueta 6

Solid, but not the best from the Chelsea captain. Will be disappointed that the Italy goal came down his side.

Eric Garcia 6

Good in possession but at times looked susceptible when Italy played a long ball over the top.

Aymeric Laporte 7

Was marginally better than his partner, Garcia. Made a couple of brilliant tackles to stop Italy from countering.

Jordi Alba 7

A good game from the left-back, who looked a threat when he got forward. Solid defensively, too.

Pedri 9 | Star man

Incredible to think he is only 18. Looked completely unfazed and bossed the game. Had a 100 per cent pass completion rate over 90 minutes.

Sergio Busquets 8

Getting on a bit, but still a quality player. Screened the back four so well and rarely put a pass out of place.

Koke 7

A decent game in the middle of midfield. Neat and tidy, while working hard defensively, too.

Mikel Oyarzabal 6

Looked dangerous at times on the right. Missed a brilliant chance to level the scores around the 65th minute, skewing his header wide.

Dani Olmo 8

Picked to play through the middle instead of Alvaro Morata and did a good job as a false nine. Bright and lively, bagged an assist for Morata’s goal.

Ferran Torres 7

Was having a good game and unlucky to be taken off for Morata.

Substitutions

Alvaro Morata (Torres 62’) 7

Dropped from the starting XI, but gave the perfect response by scoring off the bench.

Gerard Moreno (Oyarzabal 70’) 6

Played out wide, as opposed to through the middle, and a did an okay job.

Rodri (Koke 70’) 7

Brought on in midfield and was a calm and steady presence.

Marcos Llorente (Azpilicueta 85’) 6

Played out of position at right-back but did fine.

Thiago (Busquets 105’) N/A

Pau Torres (Garcia 109’) N/A

Subs not used: De Gea, Diego Llorente, Sanchez, Gaya, Fabian, Traore.
