Adama Traore is unlikely to continue at Barcelona beyond this season, but could remain in La Liga if Atletico Madrid buy him from Wolves, according to a report.
Wolves allowed Adama Traore to return to Barcelona on loan in January until the end of the season. There will be an option for the La Liga giants to make the signing permanent. However, it now looks less likely that they will activate it.
With that in mind, Wolves have been looking for other places they could sell the Spain international. For example, Everton are reportedly interested, while January suitors Tottenham Hotspur have also been freshly linked.
Given the fact that Traore’s contract expires in 2023, they may be best off selling him this summer, to avoid losing him for free a year later.
And it has now emerged that one club who could take him off their hands is Atletico Madrid. According to a Spanish report, Diego Simeone’s side could compete with Spurs for his signature.
At Simeone’s request, Atletico’s sporting director Andrea Berta supposedly has the task of completing a deal for Traore. In theory, Wolves should gain €30million (£25.2m) from a sale, but they may have to accept a lower sum due to the lack of time left on his contract.
For his part, Traore is said to be open to the idea of joining last season’s La Liga champions. They are tipped to begin talks with Wolves soon.
Such a move would allow him to continue in the Spanish top-flight, in which he has amassed nine appearances since his winter switch. He also played six times for Barcelona in the Europa League before their elimination.
Adama Traore has no Barcelona future
But Barcelona have decided against keeping him beyond this season, instead focusing on other targets. Therefore, Traore will have to find a new home ahead of the 2022-23 campaign.
Although there are Premier League clubs in contention for his transfer, he may end up having something else to consider from Spain.
During his time with Wolves, Traore has played in 154 matches, scoring 11 goals and providing 18 assists. He has earned plaudits for his physical attributes, but has sometimes been criticised for a lack of consistency.
Soon, it may be time for him to take his talents elsewhere.
