Why Fortnite fans think SpongeBob Island could be coming for Season 3

Sporting News

After a slight delay, Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 3 is expected to arrive Sunday, and fans are filled with theories about what might come of it.

Several leaks have indicated Season 3 will feature an underwater theme. The latest leak came from an apparent Season 3 icon in the Playstation store. The image features the Party Bus flying over water with some palm trees seen in the background.

This tease, along with some other clues, have led some to believe there is going to be a SpongeBob Island in Fortnite this upcoming season.

For starters, Epic Games announced the delay by saying they were trying "to get everything ready" for the launch. A potential nod to the Spongbob theme song's opening lyrics, "Are ya ready kids?" Is it a stretch? Maybe, but the next clue is really what got people excited.

In that leaked promotional image, the palm trees seen in the background look nearly identical to the trees you see in SpongeBob's intro.

That island is Bikini Atoll and can be seen during the theme song, and some episodes of SpongeBob Squarepants. It's used as the surface marker to show where Bikini Bottom is located in the show.

Again, it could just be another coincidence. Epic Games hasn't made any collaboration official. But Fortnite has worked with other brands in the past, including a heavy Deadpool influence in Chapter 2, Season 2.

Another thing worth noting is that "SpongeBob Battle For Bikini Bottom Rehydrated" is scheduled to release on June 23, so there could be a potential collab there as well.
