Jan. 20—Lions JV basketball

The Rushville Lions junior varsity basketball team defeated Morristown 34-21. Outstanding team defense secured the win for the Lions, according to Coach Zachery.

Leading scorers were Malaki Knight with 12 points, Clayton Chase and Liam Gurley with five points each, and Isaac Schelle and Gavin Owen both with four points.

The Lions were edged by New Castle 40-37. Coach Zachery noted, a strong second half provided for an exciting finish to the game.

Leading scorers for the Lions were Knight with 11, Zy Adams with six, Schelle, Chase and Gurley all with five, and Will Ervin with four points. All 13 players contributed defensively throughout the game.

BRMS basketball

The Benjamin Rush Middle School boys basketball teams traveled to Greenfield Central Wednesday for a match-up with the Cougars.

The seventh grade Cubs were defeated by the Cougars 45-16. Logan Gordon and Aiden Kamman led the scoring with four points each. Brian Muir added three points and brought down nine rebounds. Madden Meek had a 3-point basket and Jakob Sloan rounded out the scoring knocking down both of his free throw attempts for two points.

The eighth grade team lost a hard-fought battle to the Cougars 42-40.

Emmett Knecht led the way for the Cubs with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Abel Coon added nine points. Ryder Flannery had five points and added five steals on the defensive end. Braydin Pease and Brady Martz each chipped in with four points. Caleb Short-Ogunmola rounded out the scoring with two points.
