Johnny Russell grabbed the only goal of the game from the penalty spot as Dundee United scraped a 1-0 narrow victory over St Mirren in the Clydesdale Bank Premier League.
New United signing Rudi Skacel was handed the final 25 minutes but failed to add to his impressive strike record against Saints, having previously netted 10 goals in two seasons against the Paisley club while at Hearts.
The breakthrough came on 69 minutes when Steven Thompson was judged to have handled a Gavin Gunning header in the box and the referee pointed to the spot. Russell stepped up to send a low strike into the back of the net, with Craig Samson getting a hand to the ball but unable to prevent the shot from crossing the line.
