Sri Lanka Cricket on Sunday said that they are yet to take decision on national players Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera’s participation in IPL as the board was not aware of their selection.
On Saturday, IPL franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) roped in Hasaranga and Chameera for the second phase of IPL 2021 as the replacements for the Australia duo of Adam Zampa and Daniel Sams respectively.

However, according to Sri Lanka Cricket secretary Mohan de Silva, the pair hasn’t taken permission from the board and if they want to participate in the IPL then they will have to apply for No Objection Certificate (NOC).
“We have not taken any decision yet as they will have to apply for the NOCs. We are not aware of these players being selected, neither have they sought permission from us,” de Silva told Cricbuzz.
“I don’t know, I have to check. We are under lockdown till the end of the month,” he added.
Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmantha Chameera bolstered RCB’s squad
Hasaranga, who is the No.2 ICC T20I bowler, is one of the talented spinners Sri Lanka has produced and accounted for 33 T20I wickets from 21 matches. He was dominant against India as he helped his team to win their first T20I series against their neighbours with his magnificent career-best spell of 4/9 in the final T20I.
Chameera on the other hand is also showing improvement in his bowling where he concedes lesser runs than he used to in his early days. The duo’s inclusion has boosted RCB’s chances to win their first IPL title.
IPL 2021 will resume on September 10 with the first match between defending champions Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings. The tournament was suspended in May owing to rising COVID-19 cases in India but later BCCI shifted the remaining fixtures to the United Arab Emirates.
