I was at STACK event and saw reaction of Newcastle United fans after being told 'exciting plan'
Newcastle United CEO Darren Eales and chief financial officer Simon Capper have again underlined the importance of Profit and Sustainability Rules at St James' Park.
On a night in which sporting director Paul Mitchell joked he would be supping a few pints to help sign a new centre-forward, the PSR rule book is clearly not lost on Newcastle fans. At clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United they have the advantage of campaign after campaign of being in Europe and some huge sponsorship deals along the way to help them cope with the transfer market.
But given PIF and the club's board inherited a club that had been neglected commercially in 2021, the climb to the top in the Premier League is a steep one. We've already seen the STACK built at lightning pace on Strawberry Place and it takes pride of place in the shadow of St James' Park

Over 2,000 fans celebrated the club's achievements with key figures like Capper, Eales and Mitchell last night and there was also a deeper delve into the prospect of moving stadium as Brad Miller spoke openly about the possibility of a new ground. Miller even went as far to say the club have "seriously" looked into moving but would not do so without consulting supporters.
Remarkably, when asked the majority of the crowd put their hands up in favour of a potential new 80,000 super stadium away from St James' Park. But that was only a proportion of the fanbase and it remains to be seen how the club will deal with approaching what now feels like two clear options, stay or go at St James' Park.
Capper arrived at Newcastle from Leicester City where he'd driven up revenue from £20m to peak at £200m and now wants to help do the same on Tyneside. He spoke of the success of the STACK and also more "exciting" ideas in the pipeline at United.
Capper told fans at the We are United event: "The rules are changing and are revenue driven, like the STACK, it feeds back to what we can spend on the team. Every pint helps.
"This is a small example of things we are looking at across the business in terms of investment capital from the owners. We want to generate more revenue moving forward.
"And we have some exciting pipeline ideas, a lot of them are not quite ready to share at this point but they are bubbling under and in the next few months we will be revealing how we can improve the revenue by investing more money in Newcastle and in this football club."
Eales also spoke of the tremendous growth of Newcastle in terms of revenue as they look to catch up with the big boys such as Man City, Arsenal and Liverpool.
Eales said: "We know we need to build the profile off the pitch to know where we want to get too. If you look at our revenue, our compound annual growth rate for the three years is over 30%. To put that into context the leading clubs since PSR came in average about 7%.
"So that is incredible growth. As we all know, this is a fantastic football club, and we are trying to put the processes in place to give us growth.
"Something like STACK was a fan-led initiative, the Women's team have had back to back promotions and they are in the thick of it to get to the Women's Super League. We are trying to get the best team we can, help Eddie get where we want to get to and get that first trophy."
