Leeds midfielder Tyler Adams has been linked with a move to Fiorentina after their sporting director Nicols Burdisso attended USA’s World Cup bout against Iran last week.
Burdisso’s interest in the American midfielder is understandable given Liverpool are reportedly vying to take their star midfielder Sofyan Amrabat to Anfield in January.
Adams has become a mainstay of the Whites side since a summer switch from Germany and has impressed with some solid displays. His form saw him rewarded with the USA captaincy for the World Cup, with Adams also impressing in Qatar.
However, with his excellent form has come a flurry of interest. Manchester United are among those interested, with TEAMtalk revealing why a January sale is completely out of the question.
Since then, a potential move to Inter Milan has also been suggested, with the player clearly attracting a flurry of interest.
Now, Italian outlet Firenzeviola.it have claimed Burdisso made the trip to Qatar to watch some of his own players, but also two unscheduled matches, one being USA vs Iran, leaving Fiorentina fans curious.
Fiorentina have previously looked at signing fellow USA international Yunus Musah, another central midfielder, but Firenzeviola.it claims Adams is now a potential target too.
Speculation is growing amid claims Liverpool are stepping up their interest in a move for one of Fiorentina’s star players, Amrabat.
The Moroccan has been impressive in the World Cup so far, helping his side reach the round of 16 stage for the first time since 1986.
For Fiorentina, the 26-year-old has been in consistent form this season.
Tyler Adams interest understandable – but Leeds won’t sell
He has featured 20 times across all competitions, playing mainly as a defensive midfielder, helping the Italian side to five clean sheets and nine wins.
If Amrabat does in fact head to Liverpool, this will leave a huge void in the number six role that Fiorentina will need to fill as soon as possible.
With his similar attributes, Adams would be a logical replacement.
Both players are strong tacklers, with Adams averaging four successful challenges per game compared with Amrabat’s 1.2.
They also both read the game well, with the American making an average of 1.2 interceptions per match while Amrabat makes 0.8.
Paired with fellow midfielder Marc Roca, the American has enjoyed a fine start to the 2022/23 campaign.
He is just six months into a five-year deal, with the Whites paying an initial £17m, which may rise to £20.5m if bonuses are met.
As such, Fiorentina will have to cough up a sizeable transfer fee if they were to have any hope of his signing.
However, reports have said Adams has no desire to leave mid-season, though, perhaps worryingly, may reassess his options next summer.
For Leeds, the reality is they would have absolutely no need to sell. Adams is a major part of their set-up and ff the Whites want to solidify their place in the Premier League, they would not entertain any such offers.
With that in mind, if Amrabat does leave Fiorentina in January, Burdisso will need to look elsewhere to fill the gap in his midfield.
