Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey in the film, revealed the very unique wrap gift that director JJ Abrams gave her.
Ridley and Abrams share a great affinity for The Great British Bake Off. Ridley said, “Me and JJ love this particular contestant, who will remain unnamed.”
To show his appreciation for the work they have done together, Abrams had a special mask made for Ridley. The mask is a life-like depiction of their favourite contestant, complete with hair and everything. While describing the gift, Ridley laughed and said, “It's a touch obscure.”
The Rise of Skywalker was in production between August 2018 and February 2019, which makes it likely that the pair were hooked on the ninth series of The Great British Bake Off which aired on Channel 4 from 28 August to 30 October 2018.
The baking contest, presented Noel Fielding and Sandi Toksvig with judges Paul Hollywood and Prue Leith, was won by research scientist Rahul Mandal eventually, but there are a number of contestants that fans of show obsessed over that year.
Kim-Joy Hewlett’s Asian-inspired bakes earned her legions of fans, while Ruby Bhogal and Terry Hartill were equally as popular with viewers of the show.
Which baker was transformed into a show-stopping lifelike mask by Abrams for Ridley we may never know.
Daisy gushed about the mask, much like John Boyega did when he posted a video of the Spider-Man-themed Stormtrooper helmet, which Abrams gave him.
Oscar Isaac didn’t seem as enthused about his gift, however. When asked what he was given, Isaac simply said, “I got a box of Oscar Isaac chocolates.”
Abrams appeared to take offence to Isaac’s lack of appreciation over the gift. He interrupted the interview, saying, “Hold on a second. Those were literally moulded, like, they said Oscar Isaac imprinted in the chocolate. Handmade! Don’t go, ‘I got Oscar Isaac chocolates,’ like I picked them up at the store, like they’re from Nordstrom’s. What the hell?”
Isaac kept trying to tell Abrams that the chocolates were “delicious.” Finally Abrams heard him, and jokingly yelled, “Alright!”
The premiere of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker was Monday night, across the street from where Jimmy Kimmel Live! tapes.
The film lands in UK cinemas on Thursday, 19 December, and the first reactions have been rather mixed.
