STAT Review: Premier League Team of the Week GW3

Following the conclusion of gameweek three in the Premier League, real-time Fantasy Football game UltimateFanLive (UFL) have compiled a Team of the Week in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Using the UFL index, where thousands of data points are compared to come up with a total average performance score (Using data from Opta), we can see which 11 players excelled in their positions. Unlike traditional fantasy football, all actions count towards points on UFL, making every tackle, pass or header invaluable.

The scores refer to points earned on UFL, on average, for every 10 minutes they’re on the field. This means substitutes who make an impact are also included in the team, providing they have played at least 30 minutes, including stoppage time.

GK: Petr Cech - 10.00 (Arsenal)

After a surprisingly poor home debut, Petr Cech certainly made amends against Liverpool. He made a total of 8 saves, worth 9 points each on UFL, including quite possibly the save of the season from Christian Benteke in the first half. Petr Cech could prove to be Arsenal’s most important signing in years.

RB: Kyle Naughton - 9.79 (Swansea)

Swansea have been one of the most exciting teams to watch this season, with their attacking players taking all of the plaudits. But it was Kyle Naughton’s turn to impress this week, making 1 assist worth 18 points on UFL, along with 3 more key passes and 1 great dribble. Both Kyle Naughton and Swansea look on the up.

CB: Chris Smalling - 9.25 (Man United)

Chris Smalling has started the season in fine form, marshalling a strong United defence that are yet to concede a goal in the league. He gave another strong display against Newcastle, making 9 clearances, 3 interceptions and winning 5 headers. He was also extremely unlucky to see his late header cannon off the post, which would have been a late winner for Van Gaal’s side.

CB: Jan Vertonghen - 11.47 (Tottenham)

Vertonghen had a tough time against Leicester’s fluid frontline, but the Belgian centre-half generally came out on top. He made 4 tackles, worth 4 points each time on UFL, 4 interceptions and 11 clearances from danger. It wasn’t a completely flawless display though, and both he and Spurs will look to improve.

LB: Nacho Monreal - 10.84 (Arsenal)

As Arsenal pushed for a winner in the second half against Liverpool, Monreal’s influence down the left became increasingly prominent. He linked up with Sanchez and Ozil well, making 73 passes and proved to be an invaluable outlet on the wing. The left-back also made 2 key passes, worth 4 points each on UFL, but unfortunately for Arsenal, neither ended up in goals.

DM: Francis Coquelin - 13.69 (Arsenal)

With a nervy looking defence behind him, Coquelin had to be at his best to block out Liverpool’s attack. Fortunately for Arsenal, he gave a strong defensive display making 6 interceptions, worth 3 points each time on UFL, and 5 tackles. After a shaky appearance against Palace, Coquelin was back to his commanding best, helping the Gunners keep a clean sheet.

CM: Dele Alli - 17.36 (Tottenham)

The teenager scored his first top flight goal as he drifted unmarked to the back post to head in Chadli’s cross, earning 40 points on UFL. He had one more shot on goal in his sub appearance, showing his propensity to drive forward. The 19-year-old looks destined to reach the top, and could make a real impact at Spurs this season. A good outside pick on Ultimate Fan Live for next weekend.

CM: James Morrison - 13.85 (West Brom)

Morrison bounced back quickly from missing his first half penalty, scoring two goals as West Brom narrowly missed out on grabbing a point against Chelsea. His first was a powerfully struck finish past Courtois, and the second an intelligent header, which looped over the Belgian shotstopper. If he continues where he left off, he must be worth considering on UFL next weekend!

AM: Juan Mata - 15.98 (Man United)

Despite failing to find a breakthrough against Newcastle, it certainly didn’t stem from a lack of effort on Juan Mata’s part. He made 5 key passes, worth 4 points each on UFL app, 1 throughball and completed 90% of his passes. If United manage to bring in more attacking firepower in the final few days of the window, expect Mata to start picking up plenty of assists. A must pick when drafting your two players on Ultimate Fan Live next weekend!

AM: Marc Pugh - 15.11 (Bournemouth)

The winger was introduced at half-time for Bournemouth at Upton Park, and gave Carl Jenkinson a torrid 45 minutes. His goal earned him 40 points on UFL, and now means he has scored in every division from League Two to the Premier League. It certainly won’t be his last goal in the top flight if he keeps up this form.

ST: Callum Wilson - 14.91 (Bournemouth)

The 23-year-old came highly rated from last season, when he scored 20 goals in the Championship. After drawing blanks in his first two Premier League games, he fired Bournemouth to an important win at Upton Park with his hat-trick. His work-rate was also impressive, making 2 tackles and 1 interception, crucial on UFL, where every single action counts towards points.
