STAT Review: Premier League Team of the Week GW2

After another great weekend of Premier League action, real-time Fantasy Football game UltimateFanLive (UFL) have compiled a Team of the Week in a 4-2-3-1 formation.

Using the UFL index, where thousands of data points are compared to come up with a total average performance score (Using data from Opta), we can see which 11 players excelled in their positions.

The scores refer to points earned on UFL, on average, for every 10 minutes they’re on the field. This means substitutes who make an impact are also included in the team.

GK: Boaz Myhill- 7.44 (West Brom)

Many were worried when Ben Foster suffered a long term injury earlier this year, but Boaz Myhill has more than filled his boots at West Brom. Myhill made 6 saves against Watford, worth 9 points each on UFL, to help his team keep an important clean sheet and register their first league point of the season.

RB: Joel Ward - 10.27 (Crystal Palace)

Palace’s defenders were under a barrage of Arsenal pressure as soon as the whistle went on Sunday afternoon. Ward competed well making 4 tackles, worth 4 points each on UFL, 2 fantastic blocks and 5 clearances from danger. He also took the whole stadium by surprise as his low, driven shot rifled past Petr Cech to equalise for Palace in the first half.

CB: Ashley Williams - 12.96 (Swansea City)

Swansea followed up their impressive performance at Stamford Bridge with a comfortable win over Newcastle. Playing out from defence is imperative for Monk’s side, and Williams made an amazing 101 successful passes, misplacing just 3. When called upon defensively, he stood up to the test, making 3 tackles and making 4 clearances from danger. A must pick on UFL next weekend!

CB: Federico Fernandez - 10.58 (Swansea City)

Alongside Williams, Swansea boast a similarly impressive ball playing centre-half in Fernandez. He completed 95 passes, misplacing just 4. Just like Williams, he was also solid defensively, making 3 clearances from danger, worth two points each on UFL.

LB: Erik Pieters - 8.29 (Stoke City)

The Dutch full-back is another one of Mark Hughes’ successful signings at Stoke. He gave a great all-round performance at White Hart Lane, helping Stoke secure a draw. Defensively He made 2 interceptions, worth 4 points each on UFL and cleared the ball from danger on 3 occasions. He also made an impact going forward, winning 5 fouls and making 1 key pass. An underrated pick for next weekend!

CM: Jordan Henderson - 14.64 (Liverpool)

The new Liverpool captain only played 52 minutes, but gave an excellent display for The Reds. He made one assist, with a great cross for Benteke’s goal and was unlucky to hit the woodwork just moments later. The midfielder also made 2 great dribbles worth 4 points each on UFL before being substituted off with an injury to his foot, picked up earlier in the week.

CM: Jonjo Shelvey - 14.62 (Swansea City)

The midfielder’s talent has always been unquestionable, but he hasn’t always been able to show it consistently. In the heart of Swansea’s team, Shelvey dictated play, completing 71 out of 80 passes, including 2 key passes, 1 throughball and an all important assist worth 18 points on UFL. In this form, Shelvey is clearly one of the best creative midfielders in the league.

AMR: Duncan Watmore - 17.66 (Sunderland)

Sunderland have endured a dreadful start to their 2015/16 campaign, but one player offering a beacon of hope is Duncan Watmore. The 21-year-old was bought on as a second half substitute, and immediately made an impact. He scored one goal worth 40 points on UFL and made one great dribble worth another 4 points. The youngster is one to watch out for this season.

AMC: Stephen Ireland - 16.01 (Stoke City)

Ireland’s introduction in the second half against Spurs was undoubtedly the catalyst for Stoke’s revival. He made one assist for Mame Biram Diouf and made two further key passes after being introduced. Has he earned himself a starting spot for next weekend?

AML: Nathan Redmond - 13.64 (Norwich City)

The lightning quick Norwich winger has effortlessly made the step up to the Premier League. He not only scored his second goal in as many weeks, but he gave a dazzling performance for Norwich with four great dribbles, and four key passes - both actions scoring highly on UFL. If he stays in this form, an England call-up could be on the cards.

ST: Sergio Aguero - 12.86 (Man City)

The opening 20 minutes of the early-season title clash between Man City and Chelsea quickly turned into an individual battle between Aguero and Begovic. The forward saw 3 shots on target saved by Chelsea’s Bosnian shotstopper, before scoring a fantastic opening goal. He also impressed with 4 great dribbles worth 16 points on UFL and 2 key passes. Aguero will undoubtedly be a popular draft pick on UFL next weekend!
