Steven Gerrard is poised to be reunited with former Liverpool coach Michael Beale as he is reportedly set to be named the new assistant manager of Al Ettifaq.

Last month, the Saudi Pro League outfit dismissed assistant manager Dean Holden and sporting director Mark Allen from their roles, with Gerrard's side winless in eight league games.

The 44-year-old former Liverpool captain has been at the helm of the Saudi outfit since July 2023 and has since signed a string of ex-Premier League players, including Jordan Henderson, Gini Wijnaldum and Demarai Grey.

Now, though, according to Give Me Sport, Ettifaq are on the verge of agreeing a deal to bring former Liverpool academy coach Beale to Dammam in a bid to try and turn the club's fortunes around.

Beale, who previously worked with Gerrard at Rangers and Aston Villa, has been out of work since he was sacked from his short-lived stint at Championship outfit Sunderland in February.

Gerrard enjoyed a successful debut campaign at Ettifaq last term as the club finished sixth in the Saudi Pro League. However, this season has been much harder for the Reds legend, with his side having not won a league game since they defeated Al Fateh on September 14.

Last month, though, he admitted he has no problem shouldering the responsibility of the club's recent form.

“On the back of recent results in my position, you are always aware of disappointment from fans,” said Gerrard. “I have to take that responsibility on my shoulders.

“That is what I will do and continue to fight and work to improve the recent results. I don’t react, change or get overly concerned about social media or anyone on the outside of Ettifaq’s opinion, my priority is this club.

“I listen to the people within and continue to support my players. I meet Mr Hatem after every game and we talk football, where it is a win, loss or draw, we have fantastic support, myself, the staff and the players from the management team.

“We did meet yesterday but we meet after every single game.”
