Steven Gerrard's choice of team artwork questioned by Liverpool fans - 'I need this'
Steven Gerrard has raised eyebrows among some Liverpool fans after revealing his desire for some team artwork.
The former Reds captain is of course synonymous with his boyhood club, having represented Liverpool for almost his whole playing career. Having come through the ranks on Merseyside, Gerrard went on to become one of the best players of the Premier League era, and is considered as one of his former club’s greatest-ever players.
Since hanging up his boots, the former midfielder has turned his hand to coaching and management. After a spell with Liverpool’s academy, Gerrard’s first managerial role came with Rangers, where he led the Glasgow club to a first Scottish Premiership title in 10 years amid an unbeaten season.

He left the club after just three years to take over at Aston Villa, where he lasted less than a year. Rangers though clearly left a lasting impression on him.
Posting on his Instagram story, Gerrard shared a picture of a piece of artwork depicting the lyrics of club song ‘The Blue Sea of Ibrox’, along with the caption: ‘I need this picture’.
Gerrard’s post has been questioned by some Liverpool fans, with one posting the image on Reddit and titling it: ‘Why Stevie, why…’ Another user replied to the thread: “I get that he was involved with both but Rangers/Liverpool allegiance is a weird cocktail, he's gotta be part of a small club there.”
Having been fired by Villa in October 2022, Gerrard has since made the move to Saudi Arabia, where he took over as the manager of Al-Ettifaq in July 2023. Having led them to a sixth-place finish in his first season in charge, the Dammam side has won its opening couple of games in the 2024/25 campaign.
His decision to join the Saudi Pro League was met with backlash from the LGBTQ community of Liverpool fans, with Jordan Henderson’s decision to join his side also proving highly controversial.
Liverpool.com says: Supporting both Liverpool and Rangers does seem a little at odds with most Reds fans. Liverpool supporters are generally not nationalistic at all, while Rangers fans tend to be the opposite.
To be fair to Gerrard though, he did enjoy a very successful spell as manager at Ibrox, and he fully immersed himself in the club during his time there, so you can’t really blame him for still being something of a fan of the Glasgow club.
