Coventry City head to the division’s draw specialists on Wednesday night when they take on West Bromwich Albion at The Hawthorns.

The Baggies’ latest stalemate was a 2-2 verdict at home to Sheffield United – one of ten draws from their last 11 games in the Championship. It’s consistency, of sorts, and enough to keep Albion on the coat tails of the top six with Carlos Corberan’s men just two points off the play-offs.

Question is, can Frank Lampard continue his unbeaten start with the Sky Blues, having taken four points from his first two games in charge? And, if he’s to succeed, what’s his best line-up likely to be against Albion?

First and foremost, given the team recorded only their third clean sheet of the season so far when they beat Millwall at the weekend, it’s fair to assume there won’t be too many changes at the back. Certainly, although Brad Collins wasn’t called upon to make a single save at The Den, it would be unusual for a goalkeeper to be replaced after a collective shutout. The fact that he has more experience than Oliver Dovin also arguably gives him the edge at this moment in time when the new head coach is attempting to steady the ship and move things forwards.

The back four is also likely to stay unchanged, particularly given the successful partnership of Bobby Thomas and Joel Latibeaudiere in the central defensive berths, while Milan van Ewijk is currently the squad’s only recognised right-back. Lampard might be minded to change things on the left if he feels Jake Bidwell can’t cope with three games in a week following his recovery from injury that kept him out for almost two months, in which case it will be a straight swap for Jay Dasilva. But knowing Bidwell, he’ll be keen to at least start the game and possibly make way later on in the game if he tires.

Ben Sheaf is one of the first names on the teamsheet but who plays alongside him in the more holding roles remains to be seen following the weekend when Victor Torp came in for Josh Eccles. Eccles then replaced the Dane on the hour mark and more than played his part in helping to see out the result. Jack Rudoni, meanwhile, will again be favourite to be the third man in a more attacking midfield role, although Jamie Allen could provide fresh legs if needed.

That leaves in-form Ephron Mason-Clark to play wide on the left where he will be looking to add to his two goals in two games in the continued absence of the injured Haji Wright, while Tatsuhiro Sakamoto is expected to continue on the right. Brandon Thomas-Asante could be an alternative option if Lampard wants to include the striker who should be fired up to play against his former club.

As for who plays up front, Ellis Simms failed to take his chance when he came in for Norman Bassette at Millwall, meaning there’s a good case for the Belgian to return to the starting line-up. His pace, non-stop running and incredible work-rate certainly make him the standout contender.

Predicted City team v WBA: Brad Collins; Milan van Ewijk, Bobby Thomas, Joel Latibeaudiere, Jake Bidwell; Josh Eccles, Ben Sheaf; Tatsuhiro Sakamoto, Jack Rudoni, Ephron Mason-Clark; Norman Bassette.
