Chennai Super Kings captain, MS Dhoni would be seen in yellow next year, but at this point, he does not know whether he would be retained or can be seen in Chennai dugout next IPL edition.
Speaking at the coin toss, Dhoni was quoted as saying, “You’ll see me in yellow next season. But whether I’ll be playing for CSK you never know. There are a lot of uncertainties coming up, two new teams are coming, we don’t know what the retention rules are, and so on.”

Earlier this week, while interacting with fans during the 75th year celebrations of ‘India Cements’, an official said that Dhoni will be seen playing the next season with the CSK.
An India Cements official said, “We are going to retain MS Dhoni. He will be there next year and maybe few more years. Nothing has been decided yet, all he said was fans can see his farewell match in Chennai. There is no way to conclude that next year is his last one.”
Dhoni had spoken about his IPL future in the same event, quoting “When it comes to farewell, you can still come and see play me for CSK and that can be my farewell game. So, you will still get that opportunity to bid me farewell. Hopefully, we will come to see Chennai and play my last game over there and we can meet fans there.”
Chennai Super Kings has qualified for the play-offs and is likely to play the first qualifier against Delhi Capitals on Sunday in Dubai.
BCCI to hold an auction for new IPL teams on October 17
BCCI on Tuesday confirmed that two new IPL teams for the tournament will be announced on October 25. The Governing Council of the IPL had already confirmed previously that the IPL 2022, will be a 10-team event. The bidding for the two new Indian Premier League teams is set to take place on October 17, just two days after the scheduled completion of the IPL 2021 season. The BCCI is yet to confirm the rules regarding the retention of players. It is expected that the board may allow two retentions and two Right To Match (RTM). The details for the mega auction are likely to be announced in November 2021 and the mega auction is likely in January 2022.
