Stoke City predicted starting XI vs Burnley as loan boy bids for recall
There was a symmetry to Stoke City's XI against QPR and Preston North End despite Narcis Pelach making four changes. The four players who dropped out of the starting XI for Tuesday were back on the pitch by the 68th minute so even when the head coach shakes things up, it's hardly like a game of Boggle.
it is likely he will make changes again today against Burnley (3pm) but the pool of players he's selecting from will probably remain pretty much the same. There is a chance that Eric Bocat could replace Enda Stevens, who is having a late fitness test after limping out in mid-week, and Lewis Koumas will be particularly eager for a recall. Ben Wilmot is short odds for a recall at right-back.
But when Pelach had said near the start of his pre-match press conference that he will "tweak things a little bit more than usual, maybe" there will still be an underlying consistency in selection.

"Yes, a little bit maybe," he said when he was later asked if he would freshen things up. "We are going to see how the team is today (Friday) and then decide. It’s important to be fresh and the other day we were not fresh. Mentally and physically we need to be at the best level because if we’re not, the game is tough. We need to be at our best level and need to be ruthless when we have a chances. We will not have many, perhaps, because Burnley don’t concede many and we need to be ready for any we can get."
The selection pool should, however, soon get a little bit bigger.
Lynden Gooch is likely to return to the bench today, leading the hopeful returns of the four long-term injury victims. Bosun Lawal and Sam Gallagher will step up training next week. Lawal will likely build up sharpness with cameos and run-outs for the under-21s while Gallagher could in theory be around the squad for the trip to Luton a week on Tuesday. Ben Pearson is still a bit further behind.
