Stoke City are ready to sell £18.3million record signing Giannelli Imbula this summer.

Imbula will be reluctantly offloaded, the Telegraph can reveal, with Stoke expected to make a significant loss on the former Porto midfielder.

Stoke want to recoup as much of the fee as possible for Imbula, who has not started a Premier League game for Mark Hughes since December, but could agree to sell for around £10million.

Imbula was signed from Porto in January 2016 but has found himself on the fringes of Hughes’s squad this year, with moves already underway to find a buyer ahead of next season.

Juventus, Marseille and Roma are understood to have shown interest in the 24-year-old last summer. A potential loan move away from the bet365 Stadium has not been ruled out.

Imbula (L) has struggled to make an impact at Stoke

Stoke were hopeful of Imbula making an impact this season but he has struggled to adapt to English football, with his last start in January’s FA Cup tie against Wolves, in which he was taken off at half-time.

Earlier this week Imbula admitted he will review his situation in the summer, claiming his “career is not progressing the way I had imagined”.
