Storm Darragh chaos hands Jamie Vardy Leicester City hope amid Premier League chase
It was the match up Leicester City fans were dreading. When Mohamed Salah scored for the seventh game in a row at Newcastle on Wednesday, fears of realisation creeped in that Liverpool forward could, in fact, match Jamie Vardy's record against the Foxes at Anfield on Boxing Day.
Vardy smashed his now manager, Ruud van Nistelrooy's record of scoring for eleven successive Premier League matches during Leicester's infamous 2015/16 title-winning season. The 37-year-old netted against Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Stoke, Arsenal, Norwich, Southampton, Crystal Palace, West Brom, Watford, Newcastle and finally, Manchester United.
But now, Salah is within touching distance of Vardy's record with the Egyptian scoring for the last seven Premier League games. He started the run with a goal against Chelsea and has followed that him with netting against Arsenal, Brighton, Aston Villa, Southampton, Manchester City and Newcastle.

With Salah needing just four more to match Vardy's record, Liverpool were scheduled to face Leicester in four matches' time, meaning he could have gone level with the Sheffield-born striker when the two teams play each-other. However, Salah can no longer achieve that feat against Leicester.
This is because Liverpool's trip to Everton was postponed on Saturday due to the impact of Storm Darragh and Salah now has just three Premier League fixtures before the home clash with Leicester.
And because of Liverpool's hectic upcoming schedule, there is no space in the calendar to fit the Merseyside derby in beforehand, either, meaning the game will be rearranged for sometime in the new year.
Salah now can only get to scoring in nine successive Premier League matches before the Boxing Day visit of Van Nistelrooy's Foxes. The Reds face Fulham in their next top-flight outing next Sunday, before a trip to Tottenham the following weekend. There is a real chance that Salah could net in both of them.
Although Salah can't match Vardy's record against him, he will no doubt still provide a huge threat to hurt the Foxes. The 32-year-old former Chelsea winger is arguably the most in-form player in the Premier League and scored twice and added an assist during Liverpool's 3-3 draw with Newcastle on Wednesday.
Nevertheless Vardy now has fresh hope that his side can help end Salah's goalscoring run, should it continue until Boxing Day.
