Stormzy and Liam Gallagher to headline Reading and Leeds festival

Stormzy will join Liam Gallagher to headline Reading and Leeds Festival 2020.

Rage Against The Machine will also headline the UK music fesitval which will take place across the August Bank Holiday weekend from Friday 28 to Sunday 30 2020.

Stormzy, 26, tweeted in reference to the announcement of his slot: “Could be Glasto could be Reading....”

Last year the grime artist headlined Glastonbury Festival’s Pyramid Stage to huge critical acclaim.

He will perform on the opening night in Reading on Friday 28 August and then play Leeds on Saturday 29.

Former Oasis frontman Gallagher, 46, revealed his booking for the festival back in November last year telling his 3.2 million Twitter followers, “Reading and Leeds c’mon you know.”

He has now been officially confirmed as a headliner and will play Reading on Saturday 29 before closing Leeds festival on Sunday 30. He previously headlined the festival with Oasis 20 years ago.

Earlier this month Liam Gallagher claimed Oasis had been offered £100 million for a reunion tour but his brother Noel Gallagher, 52, accused him of making it up.

American rock band Rage Against The Machine previously headlined the festival in 2008. The Killing In The Name rockers will open Leeds festival on Friday 28 and close Reading on Sunday 30.

Other acts on the line-up include Migos, Two Door Cinema Club, Gerry Cinnamon, Courteeners, Sam Fender, AJ Tracey, Rex Orange Country and Mabel.

Reading and Leeds Festival began as a jazz festival in 1961 in London and moved to Reading in the 1970s where it became a rock festival. In 1999 the music event was expanded accross two sites, with acts performing to festival goers in both Leeds and Reading over the three day run.

Tickets for Reading and Leeds 2020 go on sale this Thursday February 13 at 9am.
