Striker opens door for Nottingham Forest transfer as 'priority' made clear ahead of January
A move to England is the ultimate “dream” for Nottingham Forest-linked striker Yuri Alberto.
The Corinthians front man has made no secret of his desire to test himself in the Premier League. And as the January transfer window approaches, his comments will no doubt be seen as an encouraging sign by the clubs keeping an eye on him.
The Reds are among the teams said to be keen on the 23-year-old. Strengthening head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s attacking resources is likely to be on the agenda come the new year, and Alberto has seemingly left the door open for a switch.
“I dream of playing in Europe,” he told ESPN Brazil. “I have a big dream. I’m very happy here at Corinthians, but I think that if something comes up that benefits the club and me, we’re open.
“The priority is England. I think it suits my style of play.”
The 23-year-old has been in fine form for his Brazilian team this season but his future is said to be “uncertain”. A price tag in the region of £25 million has been mooted, with previous reports suggesting his current club would be entitled to 50 percent of that amount while former club Zenit St Petersburg hold the other half of his economic rights.
Along with the Reds, West Ham United, Everton, Newcastle United and Brentford have all been credited with an interest in the forward. Wolverhampton Wanderers had their eye on him earlier in the year and a switch to Southampton fell through in the summer.
According to Brazilian publication Trivela, the Saints have Alberto on their radar once again and have joined Forest and the Hammers in leading the chase. The Brazilian is under contract at Corinthians until 2027 but it is said to be “unlikely” he will remain at the club beyond the winter window.
The Reds already have a couple of ex-Corinthians players in their ranks. They bought Murillo from the Brazilian outfit for the bargain price of £11 million in 2023 and added goalkeeper Carlos Miguel to their squad in the summer. Fellow Brazilians Danilo and Morato are also part of the squad.
