Lance Stroll has given an honest assessment as to why he has struggled for form this season at Aston Martin.

Neither Stroll nor Sebastian Vettel are having a particularly pleasant campaign, but the former is certainly struggling more having only managed to pick up three points from the opening nine races of the 2022 season.

Stroll has also struggled to get the better of Vettel in their head-to-head qualifying duel, with the four-time World Champion dominating the scoreline 6-1 based on fair battles between the duo.

The 2022 Canadian Grand Prix was somewhat of a happy homecoming for the Montreal-born racer, finishing in the final points-paying position, but Stroll has painted a far from rosy picture of his time with Aston Martin’s 2022 challenger.

“We’re always learning but I think on my side, I want to get into a better, more comfortable place with the car,” said Stroll, as quoted by The Race.

“I still feel like I’m not really that confident in the car and not feeling very precise and predictable in the car.

“I’ve got to keep working to get back to the place I was in last year and the year before, where it was more predictable and more comfortable.

“Now it’s just a little bit difficult for me, I got to keep working with my engineers to try and sort that out.”

While it is usually Mercedes calling their cars a bit of a “diva” when they complain on track, it seems like Stroll is having to contend with his own troublesome car.

“Just the car characteristic, very stiff and maybe the set-up, not driving anyone else’s car but we’ve just got to try and keep working and understanding,” Stroll added.

“It’s definitely more challenging this year than the last few years to get it to a happy place and the rhythm, and all that kind of stuff.”

Stroll, and Vettel for that matter, will be hoping for some glimmer of hope at the team’s home race at the British Grand Prix.

At Silverstone, Aston Martin are set to come armed with a substantial update.

The team are currently rooted to P8 in the Constructors’ Championship on 16 points, just one point ahead of Haas who have been on a point-less run for five consecutive races.

Propping up the rest of the field are Williams, who have three points on the board courtesy of new recruit Alex Albon.
