Strongman Eddie Hall Challenged an Average Guy to Try His Workout and Diet

Eddie Hall is in the leanest, meanest shape of his career, having dropped 90 pounds and trained hard in his pivot to boxer. In a new video on his channel, the British strongman –who will be appearing alongside Sylvester Stallone and Jason Statham in the impending The Expendables 4 – invites Jake, a journalist from LADbible, to spend a day with him and participate in every step of his rigorous workout and nutrition plan.

"It's going to be a longwinded day, because it's not just about one session, we're going to train three times, there's all the food in between," Eddie warns. "I'm 157 kilos right now. For most people to maintain how much mass I've got, and do what I do, you've got to eat a lot of food. You'll be eating and then we'll be training on full stomachs, and people can't handle that."

They start off with a 1.5-mile run. The cardio portion of the day is the one part that Jake feels almost confident about—until he is informed that he must complete it while wearing a 15-kilo weighted vest. "Boxing is all about the posterior chain," Eddie says, "so it's about working the glute muscles, because when you're boxing you want to push forward, so this is a great way of strengthening it up and getting you fit as well."

After a post-run stretch to aid recovery and help avoid injury, it's time for breakfast: four slices of sourdough toast topped with smoked salmon and peppers, along with a generous side of vitamins and supplements. Then they head to the pool for a series of short swimming drills, which Eddie credits as another important recovery and injury prevention tool.

"Every hour and a half, we have to have a top-up of protein and a little bit of carbs as well," he says, pausing the swimming workout for a protein shake and satsuma. Shortly after they stop for lunch, tacos with plenty of vegetables, and a banana.

Once Eddie has taken his daily 90-minute sleep in a hyperbaric chamber, there's even more food: a protein shake, an oat bar, and some organic dark chocolate. "My diet is 90 percent organic," he says. "As much as I can get in there, I will."

Then, finally, Eddie and Jake step into the boxing ring in his home gym for a sparring workout, with Eddie imparting some tips on footwork and form – and showing off his speedy dodging skills by challenging Jake to try and land a head shot.

"Just try and punch the World's Strongest Man in the face?" Says Jake. "I can't! He's going to kill me!"
