Students from Blackburn Rovers Sports College got to spend time in Lanzarote as part of their studies.

Each year, the Sports College travels to Club La Santa which aims to provide ‘learning opportunities and new life experiences’.

Head of Further and Higher Education at Blackburn Rovers Sports College, Ockert Erasmus, said the 34 students enjoyed a range of activities.

He said: “Club La Santa has got a programme that runs from 8am until 6pm where students can do various activities from a head session to body combat, CrossFit, use of the gym and swimming.

"We took the students on the bikes for a 40k cycle too, so we keep them all engaged to participate in as many activities as possible.

“Not only does this trip provide a change of scenery for the students, for some of them it is the first time they have been away from home and travelled abroad.

"It is a great opportunity for them to get to know the staff more and for us to get to know them outside our regular educational environment.

“They get to see we are more than just teachers, so there are a lot of benefits.

"They have had to cater for themselves and it has provided a platform for them all to develop as we help prepare them for university.”

Blackburn Rovers Sports College will host an open evening for anyone interested in taking their next steps at Ewood Park on Wednesday, February 8.

Ockert added: “We have had quite a bit of interest already and the international trip we are currently on, no one else does that so it is a massive unique selling point for us.

"We are looking forward to meeting as many students as possible next month!”

Blackburn Rovers Sports College will also be hosting an exciting half-term nine-a-side girls’ tournament for Under-15s and Under-16s teams at Witton Park on Friday, February 17.
