Former Ipswich Town talent Byron Lawrence has signed for non-league side Ipswich Wanderers as he continues his recovery from a horrific leg injury.

The 27-year-old suffered a broken fibula, fractured tibia and dislocated ankle playing for Needham Market against Peterborough Sports at Bloomfields in November 2021.

He recently made his return to action for the Marketmen, and has now signed for Wanderers on a dual registration as he continues to work his way back to full fitness.

The Ipswich club are managed by former Leiston boss Glen Driver, a well-known boss in Suffolk non-league, and currently sit 15th in the Isthmian North table.

Lawrence joined Town as a 14-year-old and progressed to the first team, making one substitute appearance for the Blues, against Doncaster in 2012, aged just 16 and 47 days

He is Town's third youngest player ever but left the club in 2014 to join Colchester United, making just one appearance for the Essex outfit.

Wanderers tweeted: "We are delighted to announce the signing of Byron Lawrence who joins on a dual registration.

"Byron has worked so hard to get himself back onto the football field after his horrific injury two years ago and we are delighted he has agreed to join Wanderers.

"We thank Needham Market for their support in allowing Byron to join us."

Boss Driver said: "I'm really pleased to have agreed a deal to bring Byron to our club. Byron is a player I've worked with before at both Leiston and Braintree.

"Byron has played a number of games now and myself and Kevin Horlock agree this move will benefit Byron as he continues on his road to recovery after his injury.

"He's a player I know very well and I'm sure he will be a successful addition to our squad."
