Trai Hume reached a special milestone on Tuesday night. The Northern Ireland international racked up his 100th game for Sunderland in the Black Cats' 0-0 draw with West Bromwich Albion.

Hume - who has been shortlisted for Northern Ireland's player of the year - made the move to the Stadium of Light back in January 2022 after impressing for both Linfield and Ballymena United in the Irish League.

He quickly became a fans' favourite on Wearside, mainly because of his no-nonsense tackling and direct approach.

Hume wears his heart on his sleeve, and dons the Sunderland and Northern Ireland jerseys with pride.

A century of appearances for the Black Cats is a seismic achievement for the 22-year-old, further highlighting his progress at the Stadium of Light.

The club marked Hume's achievement this week with a special video which was simply titled 'Trai Hume: Master Tackler'. The music used in the background was the Guns N' Roses' classic 'Welcome To The Jungle'.

Meanwhile, reflecting on Hume's 100th appearance for the club, Sunderland manager Regis Le Bris said: “He is a good player and very important for the team. His mentality is great. He is a good player with and without the ball, so he is important for us.

“He played as a left-back in the first part of the game and then as a right-back. He did well but, for every player in the team today, it’s still little margins we have to manage to be better. I think Trai has this mindset, and I hope we will be competitive on Friday.”
