Super League clubs have CANCELLED today's meeting relating to the future of Salford Red Devils - instructing the Rugby Football League and Rugby League Commercial to make the decision on what happens next with the cash-strapped club. A message was relayed to the RFL and Salford on Monday as clubs stated their unwillingness to have an influence on the future of the club, which is at risk of falling over before the turn of the year if they do not receive financial help.

Last Thursday, Salford addressed their counterparts to outline their latest financial issue, which has seen them ask for £500,000 in advanced central funding to help them cover payroll and revenue heading into 2025.

A decision was made to reconvene on Monday to provide Salford more time to deliver further detail on their position, with many clubs currently holding deep reservations about the long-term financial viability of the club.

But since then, clubs have decided that it would be inappropriate for them to make such an important decision on the future of a rival club, one which could essentially leave them in grave danger should they not get the money they are asking for.

As such, it now appears that it will be down to the governing body and Rugby League Commercial to ultimately decide the fate of Salford and the best course of action from here and it's now unclear if further meetings will be held with Salford today, or when a decision is likely to be made.

Salford have cited a delay in the completion of their stadium being taken over by Salford City Council as the reason for their latest crisis as they have been unable to reap the benefits of improved terms that will come with it. A lot of rival clubs, however, question whether it will make significant enough differences to their long-term health and are of the belief that they need to reduce costs to become sustainable.

Over the weekend, Salford have received expressions of interest from their peers regarding some of their players in anticipation of player sales this week. Meanwhile, it has now emerged that Salford have attracted interest from an investment firm, which could help them in the future.
