Super League's opening round fixtures revealed as mouthwatering derby headlines
Super League's opening round fixtures will be headlined with Super League champions Wigan Warriors clashing with local rivals Leigh Leopards. Rugby League Live can exclusively reveal the opening round schedule, which will begin with Matt Peet's all-conquering side taking on Adrian Lam's new-look team.
The game has been selected as one of Sky's featured games from the opening weekend and will be played on Thursday, February 13th. It will see Wigan begin their defence of the League Leaders' Shield against a Leigh side that reached the play-off semi-finals this year, before being knocked out by the Warriors. Leigh have recruited heavily heading into 2025 with the likes of David Armstrong and Isaac Liu among their new recruits.
Elsewhere, Super League Grand Finalists, Hull KR, will welcome Castleford Tigers as Danny McGuire is given a tough start to life as head coach. McGuire previously played for the Robins and another former member of the club's backroom staff, Brett Delaney, has also gone to join him.

St Helens will host Salford Red Devils at the start of Paul Rowley's final season in charge and it will be a battle of the Burgess in West Yorkshire as England prop Tom starts life at Huddersfield Giants taking on Warrington Wolves, who are coached by his brother, Sam.
John Cartwright has been given a daunting opening game as Hull FC head coach, with the Black and Whites heading to France to take on a Catalans Dragons side that will boast the likes of Luke Keary, Elliott Whitehead and Tevita Pangai jnr following an eye-catching recruitment drive.
The final game will see Wakefield Trinity mark their return to Super League with a game against Leeds Rhinos. Headingley is understood to be the venue for the contest, though sources had not confirmed that at the time of publication.
Every club will announce their opening home fixture on Wednesday evening, with the full fixture list for the season to be announced on Thursday morning.
Super League is expected to spread fixtures out across the weekend, with games taking place on Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Dates for other games beyond Wigan and Leigh had not been confirmed at the time of publication.
